2018, Journal of Adolescent HealthCitation Excerpt :In additional supplemental analyses (not shown), youth from these same neighborhoods were also more likely to experience early sexual debut (debut before age 15). The lack of a significant debut age effect for youth from poor Hispanic/immigrant neighborhoods is surprising, given research documenting greater sexual risk taking among Hispanics [38], but may be attributable to immigrant status (often linked to less risky sexual behavior [39]) and/or may reflect the influence of more sexually conservative traditional Hispanic cultural values [29]. Overall findings show that sexually permissive attitudes and sexual risk taking in adolescence are not limited to predominantly black and/or urban neighborhoods.
