2023, Drug and Alcohol DependenceThe role of smoking in social networks on smoking cessation and relapse among adults: A longitudinal study
2017, Preventive MedicineCitation Excerpt :The influence of smoking behaviors of social network members on smoking cessation and smoking relapse in adult populations, however, has received far less attention. Studies primarily related the number or proportion of smokers among either spouses, households or neighborhoods to smoking cessation or relapse (Blok et al., 2013a; Holahan et al., 2012; Moore et al., 2014; Hymowitz et al., 1991). For example, smoking cessation is shown to be more likely in neighborhoods with a high prevalence of non-smokers (Blok et al., 2013a).
Life Years Gained From Smoking-Cessation Counseling After Myocardial Infarction
2017, American Journal of Preventive MedicineCitation Excerpt :Although prior studies have not examined interactions between SCC and age, there are several plausible explanations for this observation. Both clinical and population-based studies have shown that older age is an independent predictor of smoking cessation and maintenance after smoking-cessation intervention.26–29 Thus, the effect may be greater in older patients because more patients may quit smoking and remain abstinent after SCC than in younger patients.
Influence of socioeconomic status on the association between body mass index and cause-specific mortality among older Japanese adults: The AGES Cohort Study
2015, Preventive MedicineCitation Excerpt :Less well educated people may be less able to recognize their health risks and modify such risks because of limited health knowledge (Nutbeam, 2000; Sorensen et al., 2012). In addition, low-SES people are more likely to do unhealthy behaviors such as smoking (Cavelaars et al., 2000; Hymowitz et al., 1991) and excessive drinking (Droomers et al., 1999) than high SES people. Because such unhealthy behaviors tend to be combined with overweight/underweight among people with low education, health risks of low SES people are increased.
