The City of Port Phillip, a local government council area in Melbourne, Australia, has commenced a promotional effort to encourage people to be environmentally friendly and put their cigarette butts in an ashtray or in the bin. This free postcard is available from Melbourne’s local bookshops and movie theatres.

This 1947 magazine ad from the Liggett and Myers Tobacco Company was found in an antique shop near Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, USA. The tobacco industry knew over 50 years ago that movie stars could be great promoters of cigarettes.
