Since 2009, flavours other than menthol have been prohibited in cigarettes in the USA.1 Meanwhile, flavours remain available in other tobacco products, such as cigars, and continue to be produced and sold in the USA. In recent years, cigar sales have risen;2 notably, sales of flavoured cigars have increased by nearly 50% since the signing of the Tobacco Control Act.3 In 2018, the Food and Drug Administration announced their intent to move forward with proposed rulemaking to ban menthol in cigarettes and all flavours in cigars; however, action has yet to be taken following this announcement.4 As such, cigar manufacturers have taken advantage of the lack of regulation and continue to create flavoured products that appeal to young people.5
